Following the heartbreaking demise of their companion and schoolmate, a gathering of Southwestern Focal School graduates set off to respect one of their own.

On Jan. 23, 2017, Justin Romaniuk was voyaging southward on Highway 60 when his vehicle veered into the other path and struck approaching traffic in the town of Charlotte.

A 2015 Southwestern Focal School graduate, Romaniuk went to Jamestown Junior college for one year prior to moving to the College at Wild ox. At the hour of his passing, he was simply beginning the second semester of his sophomore year and had plans to turn into a mathematical instructor.

"It was simply so startling," said long-lasting companion Pat Mogenhan. "We were each of the 19 (years of age) and needed to accomplish something."

Mogenhan, with the assistance of a few different companions, set up a GoFundMe page to assist Romaniuk's family with burial service costs. The pledge drive surpassed its objective and drove the gathering toward making a grant reserve that would keep his memory alive, for eternity.

"He was so dynamic locally," Mogenhan said. "While in secondary school he was an individual from the Public Honor Society, he was in the soccer group. I don't know any individual who could say a terrible word regarding him."

Utilizing the hashtag, #LiveLikeJ via web-based media, the gathering who had simply crowdfunded their companion's burial service, collected sufficient cash to grant a grant in his memory.

During the secondary school's yearly honor function, the school introduced the Justin L. Romaniuk Dedication Grant to Jordyn Romaniuk and Carolyn Ruby, Romaniuk's sister and cousin.

"This was somewhat our way of regarding Justin's memory that first year," Mogenhan said. "Then, at that point, we began truly dealing with a way for this thing to be manageable and address his great characteristics as a whole."

The following year, the gathering worked with a board of educators at Southwestern Focal School to choose an understudy dependent on the models they had assembled. Presently, they have collaborated with the Chautauqua Area People group Establishment to guarantee Romaniuk's memory is protected for eternity.

"A great deal of us were lucky to get grants from the Local area Establishment while we were in school and recollected that a portion of the bigger grants granted through our secondary school came from the Establishment," Mogenhan said. "We have a drawn out standpoint by they way we need his grant to be granted and we wanted the Local area Establishment to truly get this thing moving."

The Justin L. Romaniuk Grant will be granted every year to graduating Southwestern Focal School senior competitors, going to a State College of New York School who are a decent understudy, positive effect on his companions and puts others in front of themselves. Inclination will be given to individuals from the soccer group.

Gifts to the grant at the Local area Establishment can be made with a Mastercard by visiting crcfonline.org/livelikej or via mailing a check to 418 Spring Road, Jamestown.
